If you follow ESPN college basketball analyst Jay Bilas on Twitter, you know he’s a huge fan of rapper Young Jeezy.
Well, apparently the admiration is mutual as the Atlanta rapper has given the former Duke star a shout-out in a new remix to the E-40 song “Function.” Raps Jeezy: “We goin’ to work like Jay Bilas” (3:00 minutes mark) in reference to the fact Bilas constantly tweets about the need to “Gotta go to work” like Jeezy.
Bilas explained his history with Young Jeezy in a December story with XXL magazine, saying it started last year when former Michigan State star Draymond Green said he listens to the rapper before games.
“Hubert Davis and I started joking,” Bilas told XXL. “Hubert asked if it was on my iPod and I said, ‘Damn straight, it’s the first thing.’ I knew who Jeezy was but I wasn’t an avid listener. But I started listening and I liked it.
“I ended up getting a question on Twitter and someone asked me about my favorite rappers and I said Sugarhill Gang and Young Jeezy. I started listening to Sugarhill Gang when I was in high school. Then and now I knew all the words. It was a serious answer. And then someone said no way does Bilas know Young Jeezy. And I started quoting Thug Motivation [101] and it’s been fun. I enjoy the back and forth. It’s been neat banter on Twitter.”
Clearly enjoying the shout-out, Bilas tweeted out on Thursday: “Jeezy drops a “gotta go to work like Jay Bilas” line in the E40 Function remix, ‘cuz, this is what he sees in me…. http://pic.twitter.com/OBi43J92” – with a picture of the word SWAG.
That was followed by Bilas tweeting: “You better call your crew, you’re gonna need help. Whole car strapped, and I ain’t talkin’ seat belts. I gotta go to work.”
We’re guessing Bilas was joking about his car being littered with guns, otherwise this Young Jeezy infatuation has really gotten out of control.
