In the ever-burgeoning trend of cool field and court designs, the Mountain West Conference is proving to be a worthy epicenter.
Following in the steps of Boise State’s “Smurf Turf,” Wyoming recently unveiled plans for a one-of-a-kind new design for Jonah Field at War Memorial Stadium in Laramie. Running below “Wyoming” and “Cowboys” in either end zone will be a rendering of snow-capped mountains — similar to the design of the court at the most recent MWC men’s basketball tournament in Las Vegas.
Further playing off that mountains theme is the Cowboys brass’ decision to list the elevation at which the stadium sits (7,220 feet) on either sideline – just to rub it in for opponents not used to competing in the thin air.
To quote Blues Traveler, “the mountains win again.”
