It would be a vast understatement to say things aren’t going well for the Memphis football program.
In his second season, Larry Porter (pictured) is 1-13 with the Tigers and has been outscored by a combined total of 106-17 in two games this season.
In fact, things have gotten so bad that WWE star Jerry “The King” Lawler – a Memphis resident – is now calling for the firing of Porter and Memphis AD R.C. Johnson.
Check out this e-mail Lawler wrote to Memphis Commercial-Appeal columnist Geoff Calkins, who recently criticized the state of the football team:
Hi Geoff,
This is just a quick note to commend you for … tell[ing] it exactly like it is concerning the sorry state of the University of Memphis football program … Memphis football is a laughing stock to the rest of the nation and an embarrassment to anyone from this city. Stick to your guns, keep shouting the truth…Memphis football will never improve until both Porter and Johnson are gone!
If Memphis loses this weekend to FCS Austin Peay, Porter might want to start packing his bags.
