An Outback Bowl bid was not what Michigan had in mind when it started the year ranked No. 8. But that’s not preventing the Wolverines from dressing the part for their last game of the season.
The special uniforms UM players will wear when they take the field against South Carolina on New Year’s Day are similar in design to their Cowboy Classic outfits from Sept. 1. Where they differ is color placement. The yellow stripe and blue “M” on the shoulders has been inverted, and the blue stripe with yellow “M” works much better.
In addition, the Wolverines’ iconic winged helmets gets a color adjustment of its own with a matte, navy finish that’s slightly darker than UM’s normal blue.
“I love them,” senior QB Denard Robinson said of the uniforms. “We only saw a photo of them early in the year, but I think they look even better.”
As far as Michigan alternate uniforms go, this looks better than what the team wore for the season opener. Hopefully the on-field results can also be better. Grade: B
