Washington TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins enjoyed a fine 2012 season, recording 63 catches for 791 yards and six TDs. However, he would much rather forget how the Huskies’ regular season slate came to an end.
First, Washington fell at Washington State, 31–28, in overtime on Friday. Then, as Cougars fans stormed the field, Seferian-Jenkins was knocked down by one such fan. (Seferian-Jenkins is the one in white and highlighted by the red arrow in the GIF below.)
It’s not clear whether Seferian-Jenkins was sucker punched or merely shoved to the ground. In a since-deleted tweet from his account on Saturday, the Washington TE said, “I prayed for that man that struck me. He must have some issues #prayingforhim.”
While the sight of fans storming the field after an upset win is one of the cooler things in college football, there has to be a way to ensure the safety of visiting players amid this fray.
