Times Free Press sports editor Jay Greeson says there are rumors that Tennessee may go with all-black uniforms for their Saturday night clash against Florida at Neyland Stadium.
Greeson provided his readers with pictures of a black Vols helmet available on eBay to give an idea of what the ensemble might look like. The Vols have gone to the dark side before, having worn black jerseys with orange pants and white helmets in 2009 against South Carolina.
Rumors aside, Greeson also mentions that his colleague, Vols beat writer Patrick Brown, says the chances of this happening are really slim.
We hope so. The black uniforms from three years ago were so-so, as would a black helmet (an all-black helmet would be particularly atrocious). If there’s a reveal between now and Saturday, we’ll be sure to weigh in with a grade.
