Vols Forward’s Brother Is 6-7 8th Grader

Tennessee forward Jarnell Stokes was a load his freshman year. The 6-foot-8, 270-pounder averaged 7.4 rebounds/game in just 25.6 minutes of action (on average).

But he’s nothing compared to his younger brother Isaiah, who’s just one inch shorter as an eighth-grade football defensive stud who weighs 225 pounds.

Stokes was back home in Memphis over the weekend, where he took in one of Isaiah’s football games. The photo that he snapped and posted on September 23 — Isaiah in pursuit of the play and absolutely towering over an opponent — is one of the great photos you’ll see in a while.

If Tennessee hasn’t already make inquiries as to what Jarnell’s brother plans to do for college, you’ll bet that they will now.

That is exactly how kids get hurt.  No way he should be playing with those smaller kids.

    • Tennessee

So, if another player has a bigger/faster/ more talented player do you say he/she can not play?  You are right…..if the coach of other team does not believe his team  belongs on the field then he should  forfeit the game.

      • lolo

So true, not the kids fault he’s so much bigger. Opposing team coach should shout “uncle” give up and take his kids home safely. Make your plays around Mr. Biggy!!

      your so stupid

Name-calling does not contribute to the discussion.  And there’s nothing like quick karma.  Your apparent attempt to insult Gustafsonmb’s intelligence, reveals either a lack of attention to detail, or a lack of understanding elementary level grammar.  You typed, “your so stupid”.  I think you meant to type ”You are so stupid.” or “You’re so stupid.”.

I’am sorry, but the smaller kid in that picture if very small for an 8th grader. He does not have the ball.  So I don’t understand the picture anyway  I have coached 9-12 year old football for years and every team has a kid in the 6th grade that is 6 ft 200+ lbs.

  • Gsmithlcdc

so it looks like the news has just made their new sports hero. nothing about his grades

    • Leonche64

Why would there be a report about an 8th graders grades?

  • TexasFootball

In 5A football there are some pretty big kids. Especially if they started a year late or were held back, then you have 14 year olds playing with 12-13 year olds. Pop Warner football has rules regarding size due to the great disparity in age groups, but once you get into school sports I am not sure how you would enforce it. Besides, he is just one player. I would spend the entire game taking the hide off of his legs.
