Few offenses, if any, in college football operate with the speed that Oregon does. The same could be said about Ducks fans’ pranking abilities.
On the morning of Arizona State’s Thursday night matchup with Oregon at Sun Devil Stadium, ASU fans and students woke up to see the normally gold “A” on Tempe Butte — a 1,500-foot tall land mass located partially on ASU’s campus that’s better known as A Mountain — painted in the Ducks’ shade of green.
The current “A” has been on the rock formation since 1955 and is a source of pride for many locals, fans and alums. Locals did not take the prank lightly.
“It’s like a knife in my heart,” said 3TV traffic reporter and ASU alum Gina Maravilla.
Within hours, Sun Devils supporters had repainted the “A” black for the “blackout” game against the Ducks. If Arizona State upsets No. 3 Oregon, consider it karmic payback for messing with an ASU treasure.
