Had you (inexplicably) tuned in to Saturday’s Alabama–LSU game when the score went final and your first glimpse was of a crying A.J. McCarron, you would have thought that the top-ranked Crimson Tide had just lost.
The quarterback was so emotional after his team’s 21–17 win that he broke down in tears. Compared to former Alabama student Allyn Cramer shedding tears during last year’s 9–6 loss against the Tigers, McCarron’s reaction was all-out sobbing.
And he won. Of course, McCarron had endured a rough second half against LSU’s suffocating defense before heroically executing a game-winning touchdown drive in the final minute, so his emotions were probably all over the place. It’s further proof that college football is a metaphorical roller coaster ride that can force even the most tattooed players to tears.
