VA Tech QB Thomas Trashes New Lids

Normally, college football players love new helmets and uniforms – no matter how crazy they are.

Well, Virginia Tech’s new “turkey feet” helmets that the Hokies will wear for its Sept. 8 game vs. Austin Peay are so uninspiring that even starting QB Logan Thomas voiced his displeasure of them on Monday.

We admire Thomas for his honesty as it’s hard for anyone to get excited about the helmets below that are just painful to look at. Virginia Tech might want to pull the plug on these to avoid encountering a player revolt in the locker room prior to the Austin Peay game.

I really hate to say it, but my first impression of the graphics was one of dead bodies.  And I in no way make light of that tragedy

I love the Hokies but these helmets are ridiculous! If they want to do a tribute then put the Hokie bird on the helmet instead of this ugly looking thing!

Well, I had to look up “Hokie” because I had never known the origin of VT’s mascot.  At first, the decals looked like a first grade art project due to the squiggles and the apparent in ability to “color within the lines” so I wasn’t sure what it was supposed to be.  Now that I know more about their tradition and the nature of the Hokie itself, I can clearly see that two feet of a Turkey are depicted.  Maybe Logan Thomas had the same misunderstanding or limited information I had; hence his comment of disapproval.
