We sincerely hope that UTEP continues to salute its 1966 NCAA title-winning team for as long as there’s a Miners hoops program. We never tire of seeing those retro uniforms.
The team wore the uniforms on Monday against UNLV on a night in which the ’66 team was honored and the No. 14 jersey of the late Bobby Hill — who scored 20 points in an MVP performance against Kentucky in that year’s championship game — was retired.
And the uniforms are as beautiful as ever. The school’s old name “Texas Western” is printed on the chest in simple orange letters and complemented by alternating orange-and-dark blue trim running around the neck and the shoulders.
While it was disappointing for UTEP that it fell to 4–5 on the season with a 62–60 loss, the Miners can take comfort in the fact that they still looked great. Grade: A
