Thirteen months after Arkansas fired football coach Bobby Petrino after his now-infamous motorcycle accident and the revelation of his affair with staffer Jessica Dorrell, the SEC has another juicy scandal on its hands.
According to a report by Jimmy Hyams of WNML-FM Knoxville, the University of Tennessee fired its director of the office of student judicial affairs, Jenny Wright, on Monday for her failure to cooperate with a school investigation into whether she had inappropriate relations with student-athletes.
That alone is enough fodder for a tabloid sports story, but there’s more. According to Hyams’ sources, one of those players is former Vols point guard Trae Golden, whose announcement last Tuesday that he would be transferring caught many by surprise.
Golden’s transfer was allegedly “based on academics” and a result of “repeated plagiarism” — the exact types of matters that UT’s office of student judicial affairs is tasked with handling.
Why do we get the sense that this will get real ugly, real fast for Tennessee?
