College football coaches likely wonder if they’re still physically capable of the same athletic feats as their players. Head coach Todd Monken and his Southern Miss staff put that inkling to the test during the Golden Eagles’ recent bye week.
At the end of a punt-fielding contest intended for the types of players – offensive and defensive linemen, linebackers, etc. – not built to catch punts, Monken and his fellow coaches gave it the old college try themselves. Monken actually caught one, resulting in an impromptu Gatorade bath from his players. Other coaches, well, weren’t as fortunate.
No doubt he’s hoping for at least one of those after an actual game this season. Southern Miss is 0-3 headed into its Saturday game at Boise State and has lost 15 in a row overall.
