North Carolina bowed out of the NCAA tournament in the Elite Eight without an injured Kendall Marshall. The Tar Heels won’t get a chance to benefit from his play again.
Marshall along with teammates Harrison Barnes and John Henson have entered the NBA draft, the Tar Heels confirmed on Thursday.
The point guard, who fractured his wrist in the round of 32 and sat out UNC’s win over Ohio and loss to Kansas, averaged 9.8 points as a sophomore last season. Henson, a junior, averaged 13.7 points, 9.9 rebounds and 2.9 blocks. The sophomore Barnes averaged a team-leading 17.4 points.
North Carolina also will lose outgoing senior center Tyler Zeller. But it seems as though Marshall was the biggest loss in the tournament for UNC, which could not run its offense as it did previously – leaving Barnes especially out of sorts.
Time will tell how the three will adapt to the pro game separately without one another.
