The latest potential scandal at North Carolina may involve the mother of one of the Tar Heels’ greatest basketball players ever.
Dan Kane of the News & Observer reports that the Sunday resignation of Matt Kupec — UNC’s Vice Chancellor of University Advancement and a former QB at the school — came after questions arose over trips that he had taken with Tami Hansbrough, the divorced mother of Tyler Hansbrough, possibly on the school’s dime.
Kane’s report states that Tami Hansbrough was hired as a UNC fundraiser in December 2008 and was in a relationship with Kupec by mid-2010. Chancellor Holden Thorp says the trips Hansbrough took with Kupec did not appear to be university-related and that Hansbrough has since been placed on leave.
While much more tawdry than the recent UNC academic scandal, it’s nonetheless just as serious if true.
