UMass football certainly knows how to make an entrance.
On Thursday, in their first game as a full-time member of the FBS, the Minutemen pulled off one of the better interceptions you will ever see. Defensive back Darren Thellen dove out of bounds for an attempted throwaway pass by UConn, tipping it to teammate Tom Brandt for an interception.
The play was No. 1 on SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays for the night of August 30. It also brought to mind a similarly crazy/awesome interception by Oklahoma State during its 2010 Bedlam game with Oklahoma.
That the Minutemen lost 37–0 to UConn seems almost inconsequential. Sometimes style trumps substance.
