Michigan head coach Brady Hoke has resorted to a rather clever method of maintaining his players’ focus on their game with Michigan State this Saturday.
The Wolverines’ scout team has been wearing faux Spartans helmets during practice this week. It’s a pretty good imitation of the real thing: The helmets are wrapped in a green material and have MSU’s white Spartan silhouette logo on each side. There’s even a white stripe down the middle of the helmet.
“They got something to motivate us a little bit, to get our minds prepared for the game,” Michigan center Elliott Mealer told reporters Wednesday.
If Michigan takes back the Paul Bunyan Trophy for the first time since 2007, we might see the Wolverines try something similar with the rest of their Big Ten opponents this season.
