Huntington (WV) Prep forward Andrew Wiggins is the top overall basketball recruit in the Class of 2013. When his team recently crossed the border into Kentucky to play the JV team of Alice Lloyd College (Pippa Passes, KY), Wildcats fans in attendance decided to give him a taste of the adulation he’d receive if he signed up with Coach Cal.
Late in the game, in which the 6-foot-7 Wiggins scored 34 points and grabbed nine rebounds, Kentucky’s “C-A-T-S” chant went rippling through the Alice Lloyd stands. The message from fans was clear: It’s great to see you Andrew, and we hope you’re back in this state in Lexington next fall.
Wiggins is also considering Florida State, Kansas, North Carolina and Ohio State. The fans of those four schools would be wise to see if Huntington Prep has any road games this season in the general vicinity of their campuses and do some cheering of their own.
Kentucky already has the No. 4 (SG Aaron Harrison), No. 5 (PG Andrew Harrison), No. 10 (SG James Young), and No. 17 (PF Marcus Lee) recruits in the country committed for its Class of 2013. Adding the No. 1 recruit in the nation would give Kentucky quite a Fab Five.
