[Update: Cincinnati has released a statement denying the report. It's now Tuberville's word against Danzey's.]
A college football coach’s decision to leave one job and take another is often a hasty matter. Tommy Tuberville’s departure from Texas Tech was so hasty that he reportedly left in the middle of a dinner with several Red Raider recruits and coaches and never came back.
On Friday, Tuberville and members of his TTU coaching staff were out to dinner at Lubbock’s 50-Yard Line Restaurant along with recruits Devonte Danzey, Sunny Odogwu and Javess Blue. But apparently Tuberville didn’t stay for long.
“The waitress brought our food out, and we thought (Tuberville) went to the bathroom, but he never came back to dinner,” Danzey told Landon Wright of Wreckem247. “The next thing I know, the next day, he made an announcement that he’s going to Cincinnati.”
Danzey says this came after Tuberville blue off a question pertaining to how long he expected to remain at Texas Tech. We’ve heard of dining and dashing before, but nothing quite like this.
