Minnesota forward Trevor Mbakwe is confident in both his recovery from a torn right ACL last November and the Gophers’ NCAA tournament chances after they missed the previous two.
How confident? On Saturday, the senior took to Twitter to put his money where his mouth is.
I love my teammates. They have always been there for me. If we don’t make the tourney ill pay back this years scholarship. #nolie #gophers

Some ppl say I’m cocky but that’s not the case I just know how hard my teammate have worked and I believe in them and our coach #easychoice

Mbakwe’s “bet” isn’t the first such promise made a college basketball player. Former Oklahoma star Courtney Paris said she would give back her scholarship if the Sooners did not win the 2009 title. However the university did not hold her to that promise even after her team fell in that year’s women’s Final Four.
Perhaps Mbakwe, projected to be an early second round NBA draft pick by DraftExpress, will be willing to part with a portion of his first professional paycheck as a means of following through on his strong words.
