When former Texas Tech star QB Kliff Kingsbury was named the Red Raiders’ new head coach on Wednesday, fans in Lubbock boisterously took advantage of the opportunity to celebrate.
Along with cheerleaders and the school’s Raider Red mascot, supporters gathered at Memorial Circle on Tech’s campus to celebrate the return of one of the most prolific passers in NCAA history.
“I am ready to have somebody who understands West Texas and understands being a Red Raider,” one overjoyed fan said. “I think we’ve all been waiting for that for a while.”
One young female fan was even wearing a tattered, old Texas Tech jersey with Kingsbury’s No. 16 on it that she says belonged to both her brother and cousin before being passed on to her.
Considering how ignominious Tommy Tuberville’s departure from Lubbock for Cincinnati was, Tech fans deserved this moment.
