It’s been a bad year for Chris Perry. Arrested in April for a fight with a family member, the UFL’s Sacramento Mountain Lions just released Perry, meaning he’ll fade back into obscurity without ever really coming out of it. Perry last played in the NFL in 2008. He was a 2003 Heisman Trophy finalist and a 2004 first round pick of the Cincinnati Bengals. Chris Perry profile
Lost in the excitement of Boise State’s 2007 Fiesta Bowl win and the proposal by Ian Johnson after the game was the fact that Jared Zabransky was Boise State’s star player. In fact he was the MVP of the game. For his career, he threw for 8,076 yards and 57 touchdowns. Today, he’s buried on the depth chart of the CFL’s Edmonton Eskimos.
It’ll be impossible for South Florida’s Bill Gramatica to live down his ACL injury after celebrating a field goal … in the first quarter. But Gramatica has no regrets. “My jump was excellent. When NFL head coaches head back to campus for college gigs, they’re expected to roll out of bed and win 10 games a year. Unlike the “No Fun League,” there are cupcakes on the schedule, there’s no salary cap to worry about, recruits are impressed to be sought after by a household name when some of the opposing head coaches on the trail still look like they’re in college themselves (sorry, Pat Fitzgerald). We’re a little behind on this, but we had to run it: Northern Iowa guard and NCAA Tournament legend Ali Farokhmanesh is headed overseas to play in the Switzerland . He went down in Big Dance lore ahead hitting a clutch 3-pointer to knock off UNLV, then hitting another trey to beat Kansas that landed him on the cover of Sports Illustrated. You can bet we’ll be keeping an eye on “Strokemanesh” in the 2010-11 season.
