Win against Toledo at home, 79–73, on Wednesday night the Detroit Titans did.
On a theme night that can best be described as “random but fun,” the Detroit men’s basketball team hosted “Star Wars Night.” The team encouraged fans to dress up as their favorite character from the movies in addition to having several Chewbaccas, stormtroopers, x-wing pilots and a Darth Vader entertain the home crowd at Calihan Hall.
Other small but nonetheless respectable touches:
- The “Imperial March” was played when Toledo was introduced, while the home team was serenaded by the iconic Star Wars theme
- Detroit was led out from the tunnel by R2-D2
“We’re never gonna beat the Pistons and Tigers and Michigan and Michigan State out on promotions,” Detroit director of athletic marketing and promotions Brandon Longmeir told CBS Sports’ Matt Norlander when asked about the inspiration for the idea. “So we actively look for different fan bases to touch, even if that means fans who aren’t college basketball-related.”
May “The Force” be with the Titans as they chase a second consecutive berth in the Big Dance.
