Standout Illini C Augustine Playing in Moscow

James Augustine’s legacy within the Illinois basketball program is a big one. And for reasons beyond the fact that the Mokena, IL, product stood 6-foot-10.

At the end of his career, the former Illini center became just the 12th player in Big Ten history — and the first at Illinois — to accumulate 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. Along with guard and classmate Dee Brown, Augustine also holds the school record for career victories (114), to say nothing of his role in the program’s run to the 2005 national championship game.

Following his First Team All-Big Ten performance during the 2005–2006 season, Augustine was selected 41st overall by the Orland Magic in the 2006 NBA Draft. Since then, he has seen time in the NBA, D-League, Spain and Russia and currently plays for BC Khimki Moscow in the lattermost.

No. 10 Illinois (12–0) faces 12th-ranked Missouri on Saturday in the annual rivalry game. James Augustine profile
