Speedo Guy is like any costumed vigilante. He fights outside of normal societal boundaries, and multiple people have donned his guise over the years. Only instead of stopping crimes, he disgusts North Carolina free throw shooters.
The original (and some would say only legitimate) Speedo Guy is former Duke student Patrick King. He went into Duke-Carolina lore in 2003, and his distracting gyrations caused then-UNC player Jackie Manuel to miss two free throws on national TV.
Since then Speedo Guy has spawned several copycats, but none have done the costume justice quite like King. But where is he now?
Speedo Guy has gone pro in Christianity.
King is a priest at the Old North Abbey in Knoxville, TN. According to his Linkedin page, he “oversee(s) the spiritual lives of those affiliated with the abbey who live, learn, work and/or worship in North Knoxville.”
Duke hosts UNC tonight and we can only hope Speedo Guy will be donning his swim gear while watching from home.
