Mark May isn’t the only ESPN employee that can screw up basic facts from the Notre Dame-Michigan rivalry.
On Tuesday’s edition of “First Take,” Skip Bayless expressed disagreement with Irish head coach Brian Kelly’s assessment that Notre Dame-Michigan wasn’t a “historic rivalry” by saying that he grew up watching the rivalry game “going back to Bubba Smith.”
Like his colleague May, Bayless didn’t grow up watching the game because he was 26 years old the first time it was played in his lifetime, in 1978. In addition, Bubba Smith was a star player for Michigan State, not Michigan.
And to think, this is ESPN’s “Game of the Week” on Saturday. So much for proper self-promotion.
