First-year Morehead State basketball coach Sean Woods, one of the most beloved players in Kentucky basketball history, made a return trip to Rupp Arena on Wednesday night that ended on a sour note when he came under criticism for an outburst late in the game.
After watching a lead against the Wildcats slip away in the second half, Woods exploded on senior point guard Devon Atkinson after the player picked up a foul with just under six minutes remaining in the game. Woods called Atkinson over to the bench, shoved him in the back and repeatedly got into the point guard’s face screaming at him.
Morehead State went on to lose, 81-70, and the school has announced that the athletic department is looking into the incident which could result in disciplinary action for Woods.
Needless to say, that’s not good news for a coach just five games into his coaching tenure at the school.
