Scheyer’s 3-Ball Ices Duke’s 2010 ACC Title

Prior to the final 20 seconds, Jon Scheyer was not having a good 2010 ACC Championship Game, shooting just 3-of-12 from the field. But when Duke needed to put away a pesky Georgia Tech team, the senior co-captain came up big.

Curling around a screen from center Brian Zoubek, Scheyer caught a pass from Nolan Smith a couple feet beyond the arc with the shot clock winding down. Scheyer led it fly, and when it went in, Duke clinched its 18th conference tournament title.

“It just wasn’t falling,” Scheyer said of his struggles in the game’s first 39 minutes, 40 seconds, “but at the end of the games, I felt confident.”

Scheyer would help lead the Blue Devils to the NCAA title less than three weeks later. He currently plays for Gran Canaria 2014 in Spain, for whom he is averaging 7.1 PPG this season.
