Why have one ring to rule them all when you can have 30?
Such was the rationale North Carolina’s Roy Williams brought with him on his recruiting visit to Julius Randle, the No. 1 player in the Rivals150 Class of 2013.
After hearing that Kentucky’s John Calipari had wowed Randle and his mother with the Wildcats’ 2012 national championship ring on Sunday night, Williams arrived on Tuesday with a case of 30 rings. Conference titles, Final Fours, national titles, you name it.
The piece de la resistance wasn’t even one of Williams’ rings. It was Michael Jordan’s 1992 NBA championship ring.
“He said Jordan gave it to him to show his players what they could achieve with hard work and determination,” Randle told USA Today’s Jason Jordan. “I was just shocked. I couldn’t believe I was holding Jordan’s ring.”
Sounds like Williams has Coach Cal beat in the ring department. Time for the latter to start planning how he’ll unveil Kentucky’s sweet new dorms if/when Randle makes a campus visit.
