Dan Hurley will be the new coach at Rhode Island after guiding Wagner to 38 wins in two seasons at the school in the New York City borough of Staten Island, according to multiple reports.
His brother, Bobby, a college basketball legend from Duke who served under Dan, will follow his brother and be an assistant on the URI staff.
The less-famous Hurley, the son of Basketball Hall of Famer and legendary New Jersey high school coach Bob Hurley Sr., guided the Seahawks to a 25-6 mark in the 2010-11 season.
Zags Blog reported that Hurley’s deal at Rhode Island is for six years and worth between $600,000 and $700,000 per year. The Rams fired coach Jim Baron after posting a 7-24 record this past season. [Bobby Hurley profile]
