It’s not just the fans upon whom the responsibility of making a stadium inhospitable for visiting teams falls. Mascots are required to play a part as well.
At least in Lubbock, TX. When West Virginia wide receiver Jordan Thompson found himself on the sideline after a play during the Mountaineers’ 49–14 upset loss to Texas Tech, he was stared down by TTU’s Red Raider mascot.
It’s not uncommon for college mascots to do this to opposing players, as Thompson’s ignorance of the Red Raider indicates. What really makes this image is how the mascot’s cartoonishly large eyes seem to follow Thompson as he walks back to the West Virginia side of the field.
Have you ever had a nightmare involving a scary clown? This reminds us of that.
