It used to be the quarterbacks who starred and garnered all the headlines in the Pac-12 (back in its Pac-8 and Pac-10 heydays). Now, the eye-popping stats often come courtesy of the running backs.
Half of the conference’s starting ball-carriers entering the 2013 season ran for over 900 yards or double-digit TDs one year ago. Several of those half-dozen backs are young enough where, if they stay in college for the duration of their eligibility and remain healthy, they could hold all sorts of school records by the time they graduate.
Not coincidentally, those six players sit atop our 2013 Preseason Pac-12 Starting Running Back Rankings. Meanwhile, it’s hard to predict how the other six names on the list will fare this season, either due to their inexperience or the uncertainty surrounding them on their offenses.
