Police Investigating ISU Fan Death Threat

The reactions of some Iowa State fans to the Cyclones’ hard-fought OT loss to Kansas on Monday night are some of the ugliest we’ve seen in a long time. If you thought that the middle-aged ISU fan charging at Bill Self was bad, trust us – there’s a whole lot worse.

Two other Cyclones fans, Stephen Koithan and Jordan Sitzmann, took to Twitter to drop n-bombs in reference to the Jayhawks’ Elijah Johnson — who scored 39 points on Monday — and issue a death threat to the Kansas team. Below is that string of tweets in all its infamy.

Both Koithan’s and Sitzmann’s accounts have been deactivated, and now ISU police are investigating the threat they made.

“It’s unfortunate but we know it certainly doesn’t represent the Iowa State community and its fans,” KU associate athletic director Jim Marchiony told The Wichita Eagle on Wednesday. “We’re sure Iowa State is handling it appropriately.”

Now the onus is on Cyclones fans to handle losses more appropriately.

It’s one thing to issue death threats prior to the multiple homicides that have taken place this year. It’s criminal to do so in today’s world. These two children need to be locked away for 5 to 10 years. There can be no excuse for this. No one should fear for their lives because they participated in a basketball game. End of discussion.

Way to keep it classy, boys.

  • Longhorn Jerry

These two so called “men” should be kicked out of school. There is no excuse for this kind of behavior regardless of the circumstances.

I am sure their parents are proud that their children are promoting racism and gun violence over a collegiate basketball game. I’m sure they were taught better! Life is full of disappointment but how that disappointment is handled demonstrates the maturity or immaturity in this case. Wake up boys!!!!!!

  • Iwouldntliveinwichita4anything

Jordan’s actions probably meet the threshold for terroristic threats. Felony. We will see by their actions if ISU condemns or condones this behavior.

This is so uncalled for…and they need to be kicked out of school for such unsportmanship!!!! There were many calls that could of been handled better not just on KU but Iowa State also….so grow up….VERY UNCLASSY for Iowa State….It is a GAME and all sports has terrible calls by refs….This is unprofessional all the way around….Not saying that Elijah should of did the dunk like that….he was just into the game and he apologized….Threats to another player is so childish….

This ridiculous BS happens all the time around me. Every time I watch basketball people around me say the most outrageous racial comments. It’s so annoying, and the worst part is that nothing can be done to stop it.

I have watched college basket ball my whole life { as a JAYHAWK fan} and have said some pretty ugly things about oppsing teams but the fact of the matter is it was a fast play in a good hard fought game and ref’s are human. The fact that we were in the cyclones house should tell you that the ref’s were doing thier best to keep the game honest. As for the bozo’s who put their bad feelings for all to see please take the time to come to wichita
{with all your false bravado} and the ass whooping will be yours. I PROMISE YOU THIS.

OMG…KU has and always will be better than your ISU team. Rascist Death threat seems a little extreme!! Too much haten going on, Jealously will get you no where! Get over it..Sore Losers!!

  • LeeKline

Are Koithan and Sitzmann in jail??!!?? If not, neither ISU nor Iowa official are “handling it appropriately”!

    • http://www.facebook.com/ajcnole41 Angela J. Edenfield-Campbell

Agreed! This threat is riddled w/ hate & violence. It is not something to be taken lightly or ignored, just because the threat wasn’t made in person. There have been MANY on-line threats that have, unfortunately, come to a lethal ending.

  • Rob

It’s one thing to be pissed when the refs robbed the game from you. Spewing out racial slurs and death threats is quite another.

  • Ben

As an ISU alum, this is sickening to see. I hope the book gets thrown at these two. They in no way represent our fanbase. This kind of behavior is inexcusable

  • Thot frm OK

Wonder if being kicked out of school or worse, being put in jail for stupidity is the solution. Idle time not in school can only help the creativity and 5 to 10 with real criminals can only be a training ground and breed hard criminals.

  • Former ISU mom

Ignorance on this issue can no longer be an excuse. What do your parents think? Your friends? How would Jesus feel? Because He says the way you treat the least of these is the way you treat me. Shame and pity on the out of touch, socially challenged tweeters. Shame that you are associated with ISU. Shame. Not appropriate at college sporting events or in any other venue. How sad.

The same two clowns would be fawning all over Johnson if he had been wearning an ISU jersey and had scored the winning basket! Trash begits trash! And that’s how I see Sitzmann and Koithan. The shame of it all is that many who demonize those two are quick to receive their apologies. No apologies should be taken until those two bozos prove their worth!!!

Guys like this is why “Idiots Out Wandering Around” has never gone away. These kids need 30 days in lock up, therapy and community service.

  • carleen Westover

This is out and out racism, hatred, terror and rude. Every college has problem kids but this has gone too far.
