What are the odds that Louisiana Tech wide receiver Quinton Patton has seen or heard of the George C. Scott biopic about the WWII general with the same last name?
No matter. The Bulldogs are using the poster for the 1970 flick — which won an impressive seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor in a Leading Role — to promote their star wideout’s candidacy for the Biletnikoff Award.
A July 17 press release announcing Quinton Patton’s place on the Biletnikoff Watch List mentions that Bulldogs fans have come to call him “General.”
And as this video of Patton ringing the Fire Bell at Joe Aillet Staidum before LTU’s 38–28 over San Jose State demonstrates, he shares his namesake’s ability for rallying his troops.
Patton probably won’t win the Biletnikoff Award at such a small program, but big props to the publicity department for their creativity.
