Texas Tech hosts Texas in Lubbock on Saturday with state bragging rights on the line. And the Red Raiders will be appropriately outfitted for the affair by Under Armour.
On Monday, Texas Tech associate athletic director Blayne Beal tweeted out a photo of his team’s “Lone Star Pride Uniforms.” The normal black trim running along the shoulders is replaced by blue shoulders encompassing a gaudy star of Texas. The star also appears on the players’ red socks. It’s a clear attempt by Texas Tech to proclaim itself as the premier program in the Longhorn State after being perpetually stuck in the University of Texas’ shadow.
Whoever was tasked with designing these threads for the Red Raiders must have been watching Captain America at the time. The look is superhero-esque, even if the overall design doesn’t leave us breathless. Grade: B
