For their Big Ten clash against Nebraska, the Wildcats took the field with new matte helmets to go along with their all-black uniforms. A very prominent, growling wildcat is set against a black background.
In comparison to Northwestern’s normal yawn-inducing helmets with just a fancy “N,” this is a very cool design. We really like the conceptual design of the wildcat, especially since it could’ve been so easy to just make something that looks similar to Kentucky’s or Arizona’s mascots. Our only complaint is the zig-zag symbol at the bottom.
The one thing that we would keep from the normal helmet is a purple background, per the wishes of several Redditors who commented on the new lids. It would really make the Wildcats growl. But as it is, it’s a job well done. Grade: B+
