[Update: Pelini has apologized in a press release:
"I want to sincerely apologize for my comments from two years ago which became public today. I take full responsibility for these comments. They were spoken in a private room following the Ohio State game. I was venting following a series of emotional events which led to this moment. That being said, these comments are in no way indicative of my true feelings. I love it here in Nebraska and feel fortunate to be associated with such a great University and fan base. I again apologize to anyone whom I have offended."
Um, coach, you offended pretty much everyone in the state.]
The walls are closing in awfully quick on Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini.
On the same day that Pelini got into a war of words with Nebraska legend Tommie Frazier after Saturday’s 41-21 drubbing at the hands of UCLA, a disgruntled fan sent a damning audio recording of Pelini to Deadspin in which the Huskers head man went ballistic on Big Red Nation two years ago.
The recording was allegedly made on Oct. 8, 2011 after the ‘Huskers came back from three touchdowns down to beat Ohio State, 34-27, and right before Pelini’s interview with Greg Sharpe of the Husker Sports Network. Pelini railed against members of the media and then turned on his own fans: “It took everything in my power to not say, ‘F*ck you, fans. F*ck all of you.’ F*ck ‘em.”
After being told many people left at halftime, Pelini responded: “Our crowd. What a bunch of f*cking fair-weather f*cking—they can all kiss my ass out the f*cking door. ‘Cause the day is f*cking coming now. We’ll see what they can do when I’m f*cking gone. I’m so f*cking pissed off.”
You’re right, coach. We might very soon find out what Nebraska can do without you because insulting the most beloved player in Nebraska history and the classiest fan base in America that’s sold out every game since 1962 means you are very close to getting run out of town.
