Memphis rapper Al Kapone recently made a hip-hop video supporting the congressional campaign of Republican George Flinn. The original cut of the video featured a photo of Flynn and Memphis basketball coach Josh Pastner, clad in a pink feather boa.
Two problems with that. 1) University of Memphis policy forbids employees from endorsing political candidates, and 2) Flinn’s opponent, Democratic incumbent Steve Cohen, is a big-time Tigers hoops fan and booster.
Representatives for Pastner, who was unaware that his picture would be appearing in the video, had Al Kapone remove the photo from the video. Not that Pastner didn’t have a sense of humor about it.
“My job is extremely political, so I’ve got enough on my hands [without] dealing with and getting involved in anything else,” he joked with Memphis’ News Channel 3.
At some point, however, he’s going to have to explain what he was doing wearing a pink feather boa.
