OSU Prez Helping Meyer in Recruiting

Ohio State’s famously bow-tied president, Gordon Gee, is the last person you would expect to be rubbing elbows with the Buckeyes’ football recruits.

But according to David Briggs of the Toledo Blade, that’s exactly what Gee is doing.

One week before committing to the Buckeyes in April, five-star defensive end Joey Bosa and his mother, Cheryl, reportedly met with Gee as well as the football staff. Cheryl Bosa recalls Gee playfully telling Bosa that they’d have to go to a frat party together, with Bosa agreeing if Gee taught him how to tie a bow tie.

“It’s not my job to evaluate our president, but if I was asked, he’s an A-plus,” coach Urban Meyer said.

Gee, whose work days often start at 4:30 a.m., has been known to walk the campus and mix with students and (no joke) drop in on fraternity parties. As for Bosa, he’s the No. 20 overall recruit in the Class of 2013 according to Rivals.com and is a huge get for the Buckeyes.

Let’s hope the 68-year-old school president follows up on his offer this fall and it ends up something like this.
