It’s fitting that at halftime of a game where Ohio State put up a video game-like 63 points, the Buckeyes’ marching band had a halftime setlist completely devoted to video games.
There’s a reason they are called “The Best Damn Band in the Land” and honestly, we’re more impressed by the band than we are by the football team.
Among the highlights from a video game nerd’s dream set list:
- Tetris: While playing the iconic theme song, band members formed bricks that descended into place at the bottom of the “screen.”
- Mario: The highlight of the performance. Sound effects over the PA system made the sound of Mario hitting bricks and generating mushrooms, flags of which were unfurled above the bricks. The band then formed an invincibility star and Mario’s face.
- Halo: An epic, epic theme song. Why this isn’t in more bands’ repertoires is anyone’s guess.
- The Legend of Zelda: The band formed a horse and made it run. Just jaw-dropping.
Little surprise that the video has garnered nearly one million views as of 10:40 AM ET on Monday. College football and video games. What else does a person need to live?
