New ASU Logo Raises Gang Concerns

We’ve stated from the beginning we aren’t a fan of Arizona State’s new “Fear the Fork” football uniforms, but there’s another problem with them you won’t believe.

An ASU alum and Chicago policeman Kenneth Epic was quoted in the Arizona Republic saying that he’s concerned a Chi-town gang called “the Satan Disciples” are going to start donning Arizona State clothing because of the similarities between logos of the two, raising concerns that others could be unintended victims of gang wars if they wear the new ASU gear.

Said ASU associate AD Steve Hank: “If they were to use it in that way, we would take all legal action to protect our mark.”

Call us crazy, but we don’t think threatening a gang with a lawsuit will help much.

    Just like those who get killed for wearing Air Jordans, LA Kings gear, Raiders logos, etc., etc. They have used the spear for years why is it such a topic now because they brought out a “new” update. This argument is stupid, gangs change constantly and do you really think they want the cops knowing up front what they are going to wear? I am just tired of this topic.

    i would be more worried about the themselves constantly coming to school and on the field with these tats all over their arms and neck before i start worrying what a gang is wearing

    what i was trying to say is that how do we know that any of the football players arent gang members….half of these college basketball and football players have tattoos all over their body. tattoos are just as much a gang symbol as is their clothes.

    Yeah this is ridiculous….gangs are always going to don the newest sports attire, regardless of how the new uniforms look (color/design) in order to appear slick in front of their peers/prospective new recruits…I don’t think this design is inherently gang themed, and applaud the designers for what is a bada** looking new uniform.

    just because you have tattoos does not make you a gang member. I have many tattoos and I proudly served my country, raise a beautiful daughter with good morals and am an active member of my church, its the actions that people do that make them gang members not the clothes they where or tattoos that they have

    Their mascot has been the sun devils probably before that gang was even formed. Last time I looked, the devil was also called Satan. They didnt make a big deal out of it before so why make it now?

    Somebody is running out of anything worth while to write about lately. Why don`t they focus on the goofy republican party they have tons of news that they can report to the people. A well informed public is a well prepared public. Let the people know what the republicans have up their sleeves for the middle class and the poor and leave all this other crap alone. This is too trivial and petty. Frankly i do not care and other don`t either. Move on…..!

    as asu alum that lives in the midwest if some dumbass gang wants to mess with me over a college logo they need to first go to school and then seriously if they wanna come after me then they should really fear the fork

    Gangster Disciples, Folk, and I am sure there are many other names wear all black and their gang sign is the fork. So therefore, when a rival gang member see this particular logo they may be mistaken for gang members. OR, the gangmembers could wear these clothing because it is a close resemblance of their gang colors and logo. With that being said, what do you suppose would start to happen to fans who wear some of these things?
    Just what the article is trying to get across, but of course some of you know it alls can’t seem to comprehend.

    I don’t think the argument the writer was using wasn’t the fact that gangs could use the logo its the ASAD saying we will sue the gangs if they do.

    Always was a dumb school Name, having less to do with Heat or the Sun than it does the most negative conotation,which will the most popular with those who see themselves in that light or should I say Darkness, be it Gangs or any of the seedier things in life. But secondly No one cares about ASU anyway

    GD’s having been rocking the ASU logo for years. A conscious decision to ditch the pitch could have been made if they cared, but gangs buy hats too, and that’s all that really matters.

    I really like the new uniforms/logo! And as far as gangs go; it would/will make it easier to point them out if they choose to wear the uniform. GO ASU!!!

    One goal of the rebranding effort was to spur sales of ASU merchandise. If the gangs want to contribute to that effort, so be it, Their money will go to a good cause. Someone up there should let the gangs know that donations to the school are legal and tax deductible and a good way to atone for their life of crime.
