At long last, the retro uniforms for the first-ever night game at Michigan Stadium between the Wolverines and Notre Dame on Sept. 10 have been released.
Released by adidas on Friday, the company was careful to dub them “retro-style” uniforms instead of throwbacks since they are not actually old uniforms.
Michigan’s uniforms have an awesome block “M” that mirrors its 1900 look and snazzy numbers in the top right corner, but loses us with the Nike-style stripes on the shoulders. It should also be noted the facemask is gray instead of the traditional blue, which is a good luck to accompany the rest of the uni.
As for Notre Dame’s look, we love the two stripes on the socks but the lame stripes on the shoulders is a dud. The Irish will also have a shamrock on the helmet like the teams from the 1960s. We’re torn on this. It is an actual throwback look that honors teams from the past, but there’s a reason it was done away with.
