You can bet Auburn fans won’t be happy about this: Alabama’s Mark Ingram, the 2009 Heisman Trophy winner, has been named the cover boy for the NCAA Football 2012 video game made annually by EA Sports.

This is despite the fact that Auburn’s Cam Newton won last year’s Heisman and national title and was clearly the most exciting player in the country. Apparently deemed too controversial to grace the cover of the long-running video game series, Cam Newton was left off the fan ballot to select the 2012 cover that included Ingram, Auburn DT Nick Fairley, Oklahoma RB DeMarco Murray and Washington QB Jake Locker.

Something tells us Newton would have gotten more votes than Locker.

    ya last year was disapointing for bama fans. only 10 wins. thats no good. i guess 36 wins over the last 3 seasons will help us bama fans through these hard disapointing times. i guess it really was disapointing knowing that bama didnt play to their full potential this past sesaon. but not every team can have professional athletes play for them (scam newton….if you get payed to play sports that qualifies you as a professional athlete!) to bad alabama only has trent richardson, aj mccarron/phillip sims, maze, and some new kid named demetrius hart, not to metion about 9 starters on defense not including others guys who saw good pt last season who are returning for the 2011 season. oh yeah, plus some guy named NICK SABAN is bamas coach. not sure if he will impact the season much but i guess we will see.
    sorry gerard but you come off a little too sweet to be taking advice for next years cover. Scam newton would be a horrible choice. they made the mistake of putting reggie on the cover once and they dont want to make that mistake again.
    Ion, i guess it is bs to have a heisman winner and the leading rusher in yards and tds from the best program int he nation to be on the cover. kinda lame if you ask me.

    While at the same time the NCAA and EA SPORTS will rake in MILLIONS off his image.

    speaking from a OU fan.. Ingram was deserving of this honor.. I had it between Ingram and Murray and not just cause im a OU fan.. Any college football fan could see Murray was deserving also.. Hope everybody enjoys the game and next football season..God Bless

    I think this is garbage everyone wants to past judgement about the young man but yet next year if Cam Newton surprise the whole football world EA Sports will be breaking doors down to make a profit off of him. He who has no SIN cast the first stone.

    Not that Cam Newton should have been on the cover, but think about this: Ingram won the 2009 Heisman as the best player in college football. And he didn’t even win the Doak Walker award as the best running back. (Toby Gearhart, anyone?) So how does one win the Heisman when they aren’t even acknowleged as the best player at their own position?

    I am glad Ingram is on the cover, I have alot of respect for him and Coach Saban. Cam did get snubbed, prolly had it comin due to being shady, nothing against Auburn…they just got caught. However Bama didnt get snubbed the previous year. You cant be on the cover until you declare for the draft. Its part of the NCAA rules. Thats why Tebow was there. Just so you know this has ti be unbiased seeing that I am a hardcore Seminole fan defending Tebow being on the cover.

    Why is cam even brought up? He played for 1 season at auburn. He got payed to play. Auburn football is a joke and people are too dumb to realize Bama let auburn win the 2010 iron bowl. If you really think the game wasn’t thrown then you are either an auburn fan or you are just dumb. In either case I don’t feel sorry for you. Mark Ingram was Alabama’s first Heisman trophy winner. I think that deserve some recognition. Plus he lead his team to a national title. Everyone hates on Bama even though the school has 13 national championship wins. Your school’s football program sucks. And you ain’t got as much money as me and I can’t help it if your girl friend wants me and your mom wishes you turned out like me.

    Ya Permalink… Mark Ingram was the U of A’s first Heisman winner. I was wondering why you guys haven’t had one yet seeing that Auburn had 2 already at the time (Pat Sullivan in 1971, Bo Jackson in 1985). So technically Pat was Alabama’s first Heisman trophy winner… But congrats to Ingram, he seems like a good guy. I am an Auburn fan all the way and yes I will still buy the game even though our hated rivals are on the cover. Really…. Its just a picture!

    Enjoy your picture on the cover of a video game….. and your obvious frustration with this past season. The folks at Auburn will take the crystal ball. Oh, and what’s with all the hate over Cam? Innocent until proven guilty I say. Even if he did get payed it didn’t make him run any faster or pass more efficiently. Also…. I wonder what put Ingram on the ballot in the first place. Shouldn’t it be for the accomplishments of the 2010 season? Was it the 41yds on 11 carries against South Carolina? Or maybe the 36 yards on 10 carries against Auburn. He has many “breakout’ performances like that all through the season.

    hey yellow hammer…. if your gonna get on a soap box about how great alabama is. please try to spell correctly. it really takes away from what your saying, and any conviction you might have in your topic is stolen away by the reader having to correct your grammatical errors mentally. disappoint has 2 p’s not 1 p. i was willing to think it just a type-o until you did it twice … one sentence after the next. one can only hope that you were not educated at the place you advocate for so vigorously. if so you had best start working on your speech to defend the english dept. rather as i expect you were not educated at alabama. judging by your grammatical skills you probably didnt score a high enough act. that is of course if you had the foresight to go to college. which i highly doubt you did. ergo in summation …. next time while your on a completely sophomoric rant about how awesome your team is…. dont forget your 1st and foremost duty to the public. its making sure you dont burn the fries. oh and super size mine would you?

    It was asked above how one can win the Heisman and not win the Walker. The Walker goes to the best running back, the Heisman goes to the most outstanding player. I guess a good comparison albeit from different eras) would be Barry Sanders and Marshall Faulk. If you are looking at what a running back is typically supposed to do, then you Barry Sanders is one of the best of all time. However, Marshall Faulk was capable of being a standout receiver (on a team that had good talent at the position) as well as being a 1200+ yard back. It is very feasible that Faulk could have won an NFL Heisman and Sanders go home with a NFL Walker (if these awards existed.) You are entitled to your opinion as to whther or not you believe these awards are a joke, but hopefully this will clarify how one can be won without the other. Keep in mind they are frequently won by the same person (or Heisman and QB of the year both going t the same QB, etc.)
