With 10 tackles and a sack in Florida State’s 31–10 Orange Bowl win over Northern Illinois on Tuesday, Seminoles LB Vince Williams did his part in punishing Huskies QB Jordan Lynch on the field. It continued from Williams off the field at the postgame press conference.
“He’s terrible,” Williams said of Lynch. “I can’t believe they tried us like that. They tried our life, man. … He’s not good at all.”
Lynch, who finished seventh in the Heisman Trophy voting, had stated in a Sporting News interview before the game that he and his teammates wanted the FSU defense “on their knees” by the fourth quarter, adding that the Huskies would “just keep pounding away” if it got to that point.
Alas, the Seminoles defense had their way with Lynch all night, holding him to 44 rushing yards and just 15-of-41 passing. While Williams’ comments were akin to kicking a horse while it’s down, he and his teammates clearly reveled in proving Lynch wrong.
