Nike Unveils Oregon’s Rose Bowl Unis

You didn’t really think the Oregon Ducks would play in the Rose Bowl without new uniforms, did you?

The football program synonymous with new unis has unveiled another new look for the Jan. 2 showdown with Wisconsin, which Nike is dubbing, “the most advanced football uniform system ever assembled.”

The highlights of the uniform and helmet include:

• A shiny all-black lid that looks very Darth Vader-like from the front. The side features giant chrome duck feathers and the traditional block “O” has been moved from the side to the back of the helmet.

• A black “armored” wing design on the shoulders instead of the traditional wing look that supposedly adds strength to the shoulder area but just ended up looking like the duck wings just went through an oil spill.

• Snazzy yellow gloves that when put together, of course, form an “O.”

• Hunter green uniforms with a completely redone numbering system “boasting an iridescent sheen similar to that on a mallard’s feathers.” Um, right. Nike says that the numbers change colors when the players move, which will be interesting to see.

• Stealth looking black socks and black and gray cleats.

While there are certain aspects of the uniform and helmet we love (Darth Vader-style black glossy lid, bright yellow gloves, hunter green unis, Fab Five-like black socks and shoes), there are too many fashion faux pas (giant chrome feathers on the helmet and the oil-slick feathers on the shoulders – eek!) to give these a grade any better than a C+.

We also think it’s a serious step down from the look Oregon wore in last season’s national title game.

As for the giant wings on the back of the players in the last picture below, we think those are for display only – although with Nike, you never know.

when is enough already with these Oregon uniforms. How much money does Knight have to waste. This is a nothing school with mediocre academics. Their standards are so low anyone could qualify academically. It is an insult to the college education process that this much money goes to this garbage. HEY Phil, how ’bout spending some money on academics at Oregon so that a degree from there is worth more than a piece of toilet paper. The NCAA REALLY needs to look into the relationship of Knight and Oregon. Meanwhile he gives tons of money to Stanford for academics but zero for sports and 1000 uniform changes. I guess Phil at least knows that money for Oregon academics is just flushing it down the toilet that OU is.

    • Anonymous

They don’t pay for the uniforms NIKE uses the school team as a test subject.

    • Anonymous

Hey Jethro, Oregon is no Yale or Stanford but it still requires a 3.6 GPA and solid SAT score to attend. I’m assuming you have a sweet PHD from MIT hanging on your office wall though… But I guess we aren’t all as bright as you.

    • Oregon Ducks….

Is all IMAGE and NO SUBSTANCE!! When was the LAST time they won any Major Bowl or a BCS Championship?
      ENOUGH SAID!!

    • G-Money

Hey Jethro. I would feel so fortunate to view the PHD you received from MIT that hangs on your office wall. Since it takes a 3.6 GPA and 1850 SAT score to attend UO now, but that is a pretty low academic requirement compare to the 4.6 GPA required by your MIT…

      • Coult44

It might take those kind of numbers to go there for normal people. But your foolish to believe those are the kinds of grades and test scores the players are putting up. My son is being recruited by a tons of schools right now, NONE of them care about his real grades and scores. (although they are decent, 3.0, 1900)…….Some of the kids he is talking to on trips are 2.0 or less kids that haven’t even taken the test yet. Don’t defend grades and test scores for a school, while your debating football…It won’t make you, or your university look good…

The Knight Law Library and the Science Center also donated by Uncle Phil Get your story Straight Ass Wipe. Jethro What kind of name is that an inbred from the SEC?

    • Anonymous

I can only guess your frustration lies in the fact you ONLY wish whatever fantasy school you’re associated with could have the backing Oregon DOES have. Academic wise, it’s a choice that people make and the Pacific Northwest is a nice option to have. All schools have an “academic standard” as I suppose you perhaps think about but it’s what you do with that education that will set you apart.

You have some issues to let yourself get hung up in the most cutting edge campus in the country. Go whine to you’re other brothers who may agree with you. Oregon will be the one of the finest recruiting schools in the nation with the assistance of Phil…cheerio

      • Robert

Why the ‘Anonymous’ ?? Post a name, Darth Vader.

    • Anonymous

Phil Knight doesn’t own Nike anymore…… Just so you know…. He retired.

  • PhilKnightexploitschildlabor

@FUSC. Could you possibly be a more disgusting excuse for a human being. You hope that Matt Barkley has a career ending injury. that is disgusting regardless of who you are a fan for. Your other comments on USC also show your ignorance. Win or lose SC has THE most supportive alumni and student body and is proud of the University. I don’t believe for one second you know anyone on the team let alone anyone on the team that is bad mouthing the school or Trojan Family. Your comments are ignorant and reprehensible. Clearly you are just another idiot Duck fan, who as a group are the most disgusting, ignorant and obnoxious fans in the Pac12 if not all of college football.

    • Ducks and Roses

Hey, don’t associate that type of reteric with being a Duck fan. While I am not a fan of USC, wishing harm to a player is classless. In regards to your statement about “win or lose SC has the most supportive alumni and student body”, clearly you too didn’t go to the USC game before Pete coached there. The place was half empty during Tolner’s, Smith’s and Hackett’s years. I find USC fans are much like other fans, love ‘em when they’re winning, ignore them when their losing. My experience is that most obnoxious college fans never received their degree from their favorite school..I’m guessing you didn’t graduate from USC.

  • tonya

Hey Phil, how about spending some money at Oregon on academics instead of 1000 uniform changes. Great to have a winning team but an Oregon diploma isn’t worth the toilet paper it is written on.

    • Joe Tore

      Hey, tonya
how about investing in your own words instead of plagiarizing that hillbilly jethro bodine :\

    • G-Money

Hey Tonya, did you learn about how worthless a UO diploma is from your teacher at cosmetology school, or from your night class junior college remedial math teacher?

    • Anonymous

      Hey Tonya,
You could use a little education yourself. He as given over $150 million to the academic side at Oregon. The business school is even named after him.

  • UF Alumni

I’m not an Oregon fan and some of the unis are awful, but, these are bad a$$. I like the creativity with the unis and the partnership with NIKE.

    • Joe Tore

I agree. The feathers on the helmet and shoulders – I didn’t think a duck could be so intimidating and stylin’ at the same time. Throw in the dark visor and the overall sinister darkness and even their kickers might look scary.

  • montanawatkins

    Best uniforms EVER!

  • Anonymous

    THOSE LOOK AWESOME!!!!!!

  • clif

I don’t know how they’re going to see where the ball is through those helmets visors. It looks like visibility will be very poor. I think they’ve overdone it this time. What kind of an image are they searching for anyway, this is college football not starwars.

    • Joe Tore

I wanna see one-way mirrored visors and an actual invisibility cloak next time.

  • ujackedup

they should play in the uniforms they first ever started playing in, we”ll see just how tuff they really are!

  • Anonymous

Uni’s are cool! Too bad it was a waist of money! Have you ever seen what happens to a Duck when killed by a Badger! Not a pretty site! Go Buckey!

  • Anonymous

Anything is better than Daffy Duck on the headgear!!

  • Opusman

Guys Oregon doesnt have to pay for any of these, Nike founder is an alum and he has donated I beleive over 50 million to the school over the last 10 years. This guy hooks oregon up when it comes to athletics, he is just a big fan who can do all of this whenever he wants. The uniforms are awesome though, like always with Oregon.

    • KB

Really, you like the billion uniforms Oregon has? College football is about tradition. You don’t see traditional powerhouses (Nebraska, Michigan, Oklahoma, Alabama, LSU, Ohio St., etc) changing their uniforms EVERY week. Sure they may have an alternate or 2 they pull out but by and large they got colored home and white always and that is it. Every time I see neon green and yellow come out my body becomes ill from the atrocity I was just forced to witness.

  • Rae

Hey Jethro you should check your facts. Phil Knight does spend an enormous amount of money on academics, and most of the facilities on Campus, not just sports. How can you compare the degree to a piece of toilet paper? You clearly know absolutely nothing about the standards to get in to the University of Oregon or any of their academic programs. Unless of course you applied to Oregon and got denied? The only reason someone would spend anytime ranting about the supposed “garbage academic” systems is because they either got denied into the school or are an Oregon State grad. Which is it?

    • cj

why bring up OSU – grow up – let it go……. Sure Ducks are doing great this year…………… does it make you feel like you are a better person than a person attending OSU….. NOT …….. I say again – GROW UP

  • fballref

The visors are illegal by NCAA rules. I wonder if NCAA will enforce the rule stating “visors must be clear”.

    • Ducks and Roses

It’s just the mock up helmet for the photo shoot. Most players wear only slightly tinted ones or none at all. I belive the rule states that their eyes must be visible in case of a head injury.

  • Morgs

I didn’t know so many of you were highly educated on the worthiness of the degree from the University of Oregon?

I don’t know which is worse – making uneducated and poorly researched comments or having the character of someone who disrespects those with degrees from the University of Oregon or any school for that matter. So very pathetic.

  • Mark

I’m a 53 year old Uva. fan and I think these uniforms are cool as hell. Some people like old school uniforms like Penn State or USC as examples. They are classic but what the heck mix it up alittle. The kids love them! My 13 year old knows nothing about Oregon except they have cool uniforms and play a wide open style of football win or lose. I actually beieve they have created a brand or style of their own. That is not easy to do in the world where no good idea goes un copied. It does sound like there are a few haters on here dissing on The Ducks much like I might do if this was the Hokies uniforms. lol

  • gatorsfan

Are we watching football or a fashion show? Who cares about the uni…just play ball!!!!!

  • gatorsfan

Are we watching football or a fashion show?! Forget the unis and just play football!!!!! BTW, I would be embarassed to be seen in ANY of OUs unis……….

  • beaver

oregon is agreat school team needs to change unis the old ones looks better stop the bull gramps

  • Ducks and Roses

Oregon has become one of the most popular teams on high school campuses….largely due to their fun style of play and their fun sense of fashion. Thankfully, elite high school athletes like both. Here’s to another strong recruiting class!

  • johns2use

I just wanted you to know that your picture taking ability sucks. Try putting some light on the subject matter. Idiots abound everywhere.

  • wes

These are far worse than their standard quacker outifts by far. I don’t see the g** feathers, but I assume they are hidden in there somewhere. How embarassing…

  • USCFOREVER

hahahahahahah. the funny thing is that if a USC Alumn was giving all of this to the USC Trojans the NCAA would find something to penalize USC on. It’s sad when Oregon has to go the Uniform rout to try to get recruits. DO you know how many of these dumb athletes are like ” wow look at those high tops… those are the coolest… i wanna go there”. How bout trying to recruit with great academics and athletics. Oregon had a couple good years and they think they rank with the big boys. HAVEN’T ON ANYTHING YET GUYS. NO ROSE BOWLS OR NAT. TITLES…. You will try anything to get everyones mind off the fact that the Oregon DUcks won a fake Championship game…

    • ironman

well dbag looks like oregon won the rose bowl. want to add anything else to your ignorant statement???

  • DawgFan

    This Quacks me up.

  • Dave

Last year’s unis were hideous looking.

Less is more (color scheme wise). This year’s are awesome. I’m glad they learned their lesson at Nike and got it right.

    Unbiased observer (FSU fan)

  • watch it

Better watch out U of O Ducks and Fans……….. your egos could come crashing down around your ankles and you might have to eat a lot of humble pie one of these days – watch out………. Even if you remain in the top —– do you want to be liked or not……… again I say – eat some humble pie……….. wouldn’t want you to choke on it !!

  • Beaver

I love them. Looks great and scary all at the same time. Nice!

  • Beaver

Notice my name with a capitol “B”. not to be mistaken for the other beaver on here. Thank you.

  • h

    i like the unis

  • UGA fan!

Those are some nice a$$ uniforms! I would love to wear one while kickin some a$$!

  • DVOLSFAN

I think the uni’s are sweet! I love that Phil Knight does this for a school.he has done so much for that school he does it cause he loves it, not because he wants publicity to help or give back. I love different uniforms. makes it fresh and new, not old and boring. Oregon doesn’t have a huge football tradition so what they are doing doesn’t take anything away from anything. their tradition is fast fun to watch football with the NIKE CEO as a donor and awesome Uniforms. i got a chance to meet him when Oregon came down last year and waxed my vols, great guy. took time to talk to me, get a picture and sign a few autographs for me.
    I like them.
    GO VOLS

  • flicker101

…ignorance, gross generalizations, witless name-calling and crass commentary are rarely more than transparent face masks that fail to conceal small minds. go ducks. go badgers. or go away!

  • Robert

Yah……..Blah, Blah, Yadda, Yadda !!! Uniforms are for recruiting purposes at Oregon.
When the hell is the NCAA going to tell Oregon, enough is enough.
There should be new uniform rules instituted………….. Two, and only ‘Two’ to be worn all season long….From season opening kickoff to bowls.

  • KZguy

Hey Ducks, be sure and wear your ice skater uniforms. I’m sure they will last until the next olympics.

  • Anonymous

I typically dislike all these “new” uniforms, but I have to admit that this one looks really awesome. I’m looking forward to seeing a bunch of guys running out on the field like they are going to battle.

  • oops

hmm well someone got it wrong… these are not the uni’s they wore for the game
