Don’t wake up the echoes because Knute Rockne, the Gipper and other figures from Notre Dame lore must be rolling over in their graves.
On Thursday afternoon, adidas unveiled the uniforms and helmets that the Irish will be sporting for their Oct. 6 “Shamrock Series” game against Miami (FL) at Chicago’s Soldier Field.
At first glance, the jersey numbers look like puffy paint and the pants are more yellow than traditional Notre Dame Gold. But that’s nothing compared to the unsymmetrical helmet. Forty percent – not half – is taken up by the Fightin’ Irish logo, which looks like a Picasso drawing. The other 60-percent is supposed to resemble gold plating.
Apparently Notre Dame and adidas didn’t learn from last year’s alternate uniforms that were widely panned.
We understand that Notre Dame is desperate to be relevant again, but this is not the way to go about it. Grade: F
