MSU Priest Posts Disturbing IU Tweet

There’s sure to be a lot of emotion involved in Tuesday night’s Indiana-Michigan State game. It’s a No. 1-vs.-No. 4 match-up involving two Big Ten teams, after all.

But there’s a fine line between fervor and something worse. And the chaplain for the Spartans’ football team crossed it.

Father Joseph Krupp, a Catholic priest in East Lansing and diehard MSU fan, posted the following tweet on Tuesday afternoon. It is just all kinds of wrong.

What would possess a member of the Catholic priesthood to write such a thing considering that his profession has been investigated for countless claims of child sexual abuse and in a college sports world still in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky scandal at Penn State is anyone’s guess.

Worth noting: Father Krupp is also the author of “Smart Answers and Bad Jokes from a Priest Who Proves God Has a Sense of Humor.”

We’re going to file his Tuesday tweet under the “Bad Jokes” category.

    Gosh, don’t take things out of context. Yeah, he should have thought that through but you know perfectly well that he was in no way referring to anything sexual.

    Oh no, a priest that talks a bit of smack! Take the stick out, it’s a college basketball game. I think it’s nice to see someone who doesn’t have the holier-than-thou attitude, and can trash talk about sports.

    That was actually kinda funny. People are too PC now. Heaven forbid, a Catholic priest might actually say something human, which ANYONE would have made without a second thought. Anyone with 50 IQ points knows that was a dry joke. Oddly, I can’t find this author’s name…must be an IU grad, or parent of one.

    Depending on where your mind is is whether or not this is offensive. Not for me. Neither was the Illinois poster of Groce hugging his son trying to get Illinois student body to buy tickets for the Penn St. game. Media making something out of nothing on both accounts.

    I know father Joe. He is a great guy, well respected in the area, and a FIERCE Michigan State fan. God forbid he tweet some trash talk on game day, just like every other Spartan has. Get over yourself.

    Probably one of the more ignorant rants on a very simple statement that I have read. The priest obviously has a sense of humor and it should be accepted as such. Interesting that the person who chose to take him to task through his or her personal, editorial opinion didn’t include his name, yet had no trouble with blasting a priest (by name) and making insinuations that were clearly way beyond what the man intended. If you can’t accept someone with a simple and totally harmless sense of humor, at least keep your mouth shut (rather than dispaly your ignorance) so that those of us who do can enjoy it.
