A memo to any reporter covering Mississippi State football this fall: Whatever you do, don’t ask Bulldogs coach Dan Mullen about player injuries.
After MSU’s Thursday practice, a reporter asked Mullen about the health status of two safeties, Tobias Smith and Niko Whitley. Mullen tried to deflect the question with, “We don’t talk about injuries.” When the reporter persisted, Mullen nearly walked out of the interview room.
“We have a policy on injuries,” Mullen told the room. “Don’t ask me questions that we have a policy on.”
Once it was established that there would be no more queries of the kind, Mullen resumed the press conference.
Quite the polar opposite to Bill Belichick’s passive aggressive approach to the matter.
