[Update: Hoffner has been booked on charges of using minors in a sexual performance.]
Disturbingly, the crimes of former Penn State assistant Jerry Sandusky now have company in the world of college football.
Minnesota State football coach Todd Hoffner was arrested on Tuesday afternoon on charges of child pornography. According to Dan Nienaber of the Mankato Free Press, Hoffner’s employers learned about the pending charges last Friday, when he was escorted off the Mavericks’ practice field and placed on administrative leave.
These charges cast an unmovable gloom over Hoffner’s successful career in Mankato. A married father of three, Hoffner is 34–13 with Division-II Minnesota State since becoming the head coach in 2008.
An assistant to MSU President Richard Davenport, Carol Stallkamp, told Nienaber that two complaints have been filed against Hoffner since he has been with the university.
This news is shocking and disgusting. Even more so that it breaks less than one year after the Penn State scandal.
