Of course Nike wouldn’t miss out on an opportunity to leave its mark on one of college football’s most iconic rivalry games.
The Swoosh has outfitted Navy with new uniforms in advance of the Midshipmen’s Dec. 8 showdown with Army in Philadelphia. And they are befitting of the officer’s garb that many players will wear upon leaving Annapolis for active duty.
“Navy” is splashed across the chest in simple block lettering befitting a military academy. The blue bordering on the neck and shoulders as well as the anchors sewn into the latter makes the jersey look like an actual officer’s uniform.
The blue-and-gold anchor decal on the helmet is very sharp. It would look even better if Nike spared us the gold stripe and blue patterning overkill on the back of the lid. But those flourishes aren’t entirely damning, as they blend well with the rest of the ensemble.
If the Mids can beat Army for the 12th straight year, the uniforms will feel even better. Grade: B
